SIP configuration of a beroNet VoIP Gateway
No matter what you wish to connect to the beroNet VoIP Gateway (device, carrier or IP-PBX), as long as it connects to the gateway via SIP, you need to take care of it under the tab "SIP+".
SIP General options
In this menu, you can change the general option of all the SIP account you will create on the gateway. The default configuration is the following:
Depending on the scenario you want to use the beroNet Gateway for, you might need to configure port forwarding rules in your router for the bind port (5060) and the RTP port range (6000-7000).
Changes in the menu will affect each SIP account configured on the beroNet Gateway. However the bind port and the "SIP transport" protocol can be defined in each SIP peer configured on the gateway.
Profile Management
As VoIP is not well standardized, it is sometimes necessary to adapt the SIP configuration of the gateway depending on the peer we want to connect the gateway to. We therefore have created some SIP profiles in order to make the integration of tested SIP peers seamless. Default profiles are already available on the gateway. Under Profile management, we have the possibility to delete or add profiles. A list of certified carriers and their SIP configuration is available here.
Adding a new SIP account
To add a new SIP account, navigate to "SIP" under "SIP+" and click on "Add". If a SIP profile exists for the peer you wish to configure, select it. If not, choose "Manual" and click "Next".
Compulsory configuration options
No matter the kind of SIP peer you configure, two options are compulsory:
- "Name": enter whatever you want. Blanks and special characters are not allowed.
- SIP outbound proxy: the IP address or name server of the peer the gateway will be connected to. You can specify the port here if it varies from the general bind port ("sip-outbound-proxy:5061" for example).
Depending on the SIP peer you connect to the gateway, you might need to enter more information.
Authentification via IP address
If you connect a SIP provider directly to the gateway and the latter uses an authentification via IP address, no other information is needed. We let the gateway know which IP address is allowed and the provider does the same with the public IP of the place where the gateway is installed. The VoIP carrier registers on the gateway, not the other way around.
Authentification via username and password
For most IPBX and some VoIP carriers, other information are needed, usually "User" and "secret" (password). Both information are to be found on the provider or IPBX side. Finally, the "register" option needs to be checked in some cases: for VoIP providers using this authentification method and for some IPBX (like 3CX). For IPBX based on Asterisk, it should not be checked.
"more" options
By clicking on more, you have the possibility to configure your SIP account in more details:
Here are some useful additional configuration that can be found under "more".
- Codecs: it is possible to deactivate T.38 or to change the default available codecs;
- A failover SIP account can be set in the drop down menu "Failover account";
- The four following fields are important for CallerID and DID mapping. To know how those fields work and how to manage it, you can check this page.
